WARFORDSBURG -- Southern Fulton snapped a four-game losing skid in a big way.

The Indians received an outstanding pitching performance from Derek Younker and the offense came alive in a 10-0 Sideling Hill League victory over Fannett-Metal on Thursday.

Younker surrendered just two hits, walked none and fanned six in four innings of work for Southern Fulton (2-4, 2-3 SHL).

"Derek threw a nice game," Southern Fulton coach Andrew Pepple said. "We played good defense behind him, too. It was a good team win tonight."

The Indians took a 3-0 lead in the third inning on a three-run homer by Jesse Smartt, who finished 2-for-3 with a home run, double and five RBIs.

In the fourth, Southern Fulton piled up seven more runs. Josh Hall (2-for-3) and Zach Morton (2-for-2) also had two hits for the Indians .

"I've been telling the guys if they put forth 100 percent effort, the wins and everything else will come," Pepple said. "If they keep staying positive and put in the effort, then, hopefully, they'll get positive results."

Jordan Higgins and Ethan Kreigline had hits for Fannett-Metal (2-3, 1-2 SHL).

Drew Wink worked the first 5 innings for his first victory and made a key defensive play to squash a fourth-inning rally by the Hornets ... McConnellsburg coach Loy Garber said, "Drew Wink got himself out of a bases-loaded jam. He made a diving catch of a squeeze bunt, then hopped up and doubled off the runner at third. We hung tough today and manufactured a win." ... Petty-John finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

The Panthers went on to score 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined; 7 of those runs were unearned ... Forbes Road coach Randy Gelvin said, "(Justin) Hann was pitching his best game of the year for us and we were cruising along before we totally self-destructed. They hit four straight ground balls and we booted them all. It was downhill after that." ... Dylan Gelvin and Dillen Burger each had 2 hits in the loss.

Mercersburg Academy's bats woke up in the second game, leading the Blue Storm to a sweep over Hill School ... The Blue Storm (4-0, 4-0 MAPL) scored 11 runs over the final 4 innings to make a winner of Tom Timoney (2-0), who struck out 6 in 5 1/3 innings ... Cesar Wong went 4-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs and Timoney helped his own cause with 3 hits ... In the opener, Mercersburg committed 4 errors to spoil a fine outing by Christian Binford, who allowed just 3 hits (no earned runs) and struck out 10 ... In the bottom of the seventh, Sam Rodgers scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch ... Blue Storm coach Karl Reisner said, "They are a good team. They were 4-1 coming in so this gives us a good jump on the (Mid-Atlantic Prep League) to be 4-0. I'm really pleased because last week we couldn't get down a bunt and today we had four sacrifices. They made a difference in the outcome."
