Sizemore was expected to miss several days, which will give manager Eric Wedge and his staff the chance to look at various other players in center field.
It's a position that Wedge typically doesn't have to worry much about, given Sizemore's history of production and durability.
In the first spring game Sizemore missed, Ben Francisco started in center field.
Other outfielders who could get starts in center include Trevor Crowe, Michael Brantley and Shin-Soo Choo, once he returns from playing for Korea in the World Baseball Classic.
Another possibility is Josh Barfield, who played a couple of innings in center in the Indians' second exhibition game. Barfield, who lost the second base job to Asdrubal Cabrera two years ago, is being looked at in a utility role this spring.
To that end, Barfield is expected to get starts at multiple positions in the infield and outfield during spring training.
Club officials want to gauge Barfield's ability to be flexible enough at enough different positions to merit considering keeping him on the Opening Day roster in a utility role.
Barfield, however, is seemingly a longshot to win that utility role. Jamey Carroll will likely open the season as the utility infielder, while David Dellucci will be the fourth outfielder.
In addition, first baseman Ryan Garko is being given some starts in left field in the spring and could be used in an emergency in the outfield during the regular season.
