Cleveland Indians Inside Pitch 2009-04-25

Cleveland Indians Inside Pitch 2009-04-25
While the Indians have struggled to win games in the first two and a half weeks of the season, they haven't struggled to hit or score runs. Until now.

Now the Indians are in a hitting slump. Friday night, for the third consecutive game, the Indians didn't do much hitting, and it led to a 5-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

In their last three games, the Indians have scored a total of six runs, and four of them came in one inning. They've scored just two runs over the other 25 innings they've played in that span.

Prior to those last three games, the Indians were first or second in the American League in most of the important offensive categories. But the offense has disappeared in the last three games.

That's an ominous development for a team whose pitching has been the worst in the American League to this point. The Indians came into Friday's game with a 6.31 ERA, the highest in the American League. Without a robust offense to lead the way, the Indians' lack of pitching becomes an even more glaring weakness.

TWINS 5, INDIANS 1: OF Grady Sizemore's RBI single in the third inning accounted for the only run for the Indians, who have scored just six runs in their last three games. RHP Fausto Carmona gave up five runs in six innings to take the loss, dropping his record to 1-3.
