Cleveland Indians Inside Pitch 2009-05-14

Cleveland Indians Inside Pitch 2009-05-14
Cliff Lee, who was pitching well, wasn't winning many games in the first two months of the season. Lee solved that problem Wednesday. He pitched a little better.

Lee tossed seven scoreless innings and combined with two relievers on a 4-0 shutout of the Chicago White Sox. Lee struck out nine and walked one in the best of several good outings he has had this season.

His win Wednesday boosted Lee's record to a deceiving 2-5. Because of a lack of run support, Lee's record is not nearly what it should be, given his 3.00 ERA.

In his last six starts Lee has a 1.43 ERA but has a record of just 2-3 in that span because of a lack of run support. In four of Lee's last five starts, the Indians have scored one or no runs.

Through it all, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner hasn't gotten discouraged. He has continued to produce quality start after quality start. He has pitched seven or more innings in each of his last five starts.

INDIANS 4, WHITE SOX 0: LHP Cliff Lee pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out nine, to get the win. C Victor Martinez hit a solo home run and DH Ryan Garko had a two-run homer.
