Cleveland Indians Inside Pitch 2008-06-02

Cleveland Indians Inside Pitch 2008-06-02
The Indians' offensive woes continued during the weekend, even when playing the struggling Kansas City Royals, who had lost 11 games in a row until the Indians arrived.

The Indians lost 6-1 to Kansas City, losing two of three games to the Royals in the weekend series. The Indians scored just nine runs in the series, including just three runs in the last two games.

Sunday's lineup did not include No. 3 hitter Travis Hafner, who was on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain, and No. 4 hitter Victor Martinez, who hit just .222 in the month of May and has not yet hit a home run this season.

The Indians are seemingly at a crucial juncture in their 2008 season. They have lost 12 of their last 15 games, and they still have eight games remaining on an 11-game trip to Kansas City, Texas and Detroit.

Unless the offense suddenly comes to life, the Indians are in danger of having a disastrous road trip, which could trigger even more speculation that the club will consider trading free agent to be C.C. Sabathia, and perhaps some others.

ROYALS 6, INDIANS 1: Outfielder Grady Sizemore's eighth-inning home run accounted for the Indians' only run. The Indians lost two of three to the Royals and have lost 12 of their last 15 games overall. Paul Byrd never made it out of the fifth inning, giving up six runs as his record fell to 2-5.
