--RHP Fausto Carmona and C Victor Martinez will appeal their suspensions handed down by Major League Baseball Monday, the result of a brawl with the Tigers last Friday. Carmona was suspended for six games and Martinez was suspended for three games. Carmona is scheduled to make his final start of the season Wednesday in Boston, and manager Eric Wedge says it's important for Carmona to make that start, which undoubtedly is one of the reasons Carmona is appealing his suspension.
--2B Asdrubal Cabrera has not decided whether or not he will appeal the three-game suspension he received from Major League Baseball Monday, the result of a brawl with Detroit last Friday. Cabrera's suspension is not scheduled to take effect until Thursday, so he has until then to decide whether or not he will appeal. --OF Ben Francisco got hit by a pitch from RHP Josh Beckett in the fifth inning Monday. That's the 99th time an Indians hitter has been hit by a pitch this season, one shy of the major league record of 100, set by the 1997 Houston Astros.
--OF Brad Snyder, the Indians' first round pick in the 2003 June draft, was lost Monday to the Cubs, who claimed him off waivers. At Class AAA Buffalo this year, Snyder hit .246 with 12 home runs, 61 RBIs, and 123 strikeouts in 411 at-bats.
--LHP Cliff Lee will go for his 23rd win of the year Tuesday versus the Red Sox. Lee is 2-3 with a 4.91 ERA in seven career starts versus Boston.
BY THE NUMBERS: 33 -- Years the Indians went between 20-game winners; from Gaylord Perry in 1974 to LHP Cliff Lee in 2008. That's the longest gap between 20-game winners in major league history.
