Indianszone.com | Cleveland Indians News, indians Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --DH Travis Hafner, who has sat out the last three games with a sore right shoulder, had a cortisone shot Tuesday and says he hopes to be back in the lineup Friday when the Indians begin a three-game series in Kansas City.
--RHP Adam Miller, the Indians' top pitching prospect, underwent reconstructive surgery on the middle finger of his right (throwing) hand Tuesday. Indians head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff said it will be eight weeks before Miller can begin a throwing program. In six Class AAA starts, Miller was 0-1 with a 1.88 ERA. --SS Jhonny Peralta's home run Wednesday was his 11th of the season. Peralta is on pace to hit 34 home runs. His career high is 24, set in 2005.
--RHP Rafael Betancourt, who held opposing batters to a .183 batting average last season, is getting roughed up this season, allowing an opposing batting average of .316. Manager Eric Wedge says the problem is Betancourt's reluctance to throw inside. "Until he starts throwing inside, guys are going to continue to lean out over the plate, and he's going to get hit like that," Wedge said.
--RHP Jorge Julio was designated for assignment in order to clear a roster spot for RHP Jake Westbrook, who was activated Wednesday. In 15 appearances, Julio had a 5.60 ERA and allowed 11 walks in 17 2/3 innings.
--The Indians were credited with a triple steal Tuesday night in their 8-2 win over the White Sox. With David Dellucci at third, Grady Sizemore at second and Jamey Carroll at first, two outs and a 3-2 count on Victor Martinez, the runners were going on the movement from reliever Ehren Wasserman. Wasserman faked a throw to third, turned and threw to first, catching Carroll in a rundown. As that rundown was taking place, Dellucci broke for home. First baseman Paul Konerko threw wildly to the plate, allowing Dellucci to score, and the other two runners to move up a base. Dellucci admitted he would have been out with a good throw, but instead of the play being ruled an error on Konerko, it was ruled a triple steal. Indians manager Eric Wedge had no comment on the play.
BY THE NUMBERS: .202 -- The Indians' team batting average during a seven-game losing streak that was finally snapped with a 5-2 win over Texas on May 24.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I'm sick and tired of us giving away at bats like we're doing. If they've got to be mad at me, so be it. But I'm tired of seeing the same thing day after day." -- Manager Eric Wedge, after the Indians lost seven games in a row, hitting .202 and scoring just 22 runs during the streak.
