--RHP Anthony Reyes won his first American League appearance, holding Toronto to one run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings Friday night. Reyes was recently acquired from St. Louis in a minor-league trade and takes the place in the rotation of RHP Matt Ginter, who was placed on the disabled list with soreness in his right forearm.
--1B Ryan Garko was not in the starting lineup Friday. Garko was removed from the Indians' previous game, Wednesday at Tampa Bay, for not running to first after hitting a grounder down the first base line. He remained on the bench Friday. --SS Jhonny Peralta has two five-hit games this year. Since 1956 the only other Indians player with two five-hit games in the same year was Joe Carter, who had three five-hit games in 1986.
--C Kelly Shoppach is hitting .396 in his last 15 games, including eight doubles, five home runs, and 15 RBIs.
--RHP Jensen Lewis' save Friday night was his first career save.
BY THE NUMBERS: 30 -- Consecutive hitters LHP Jeremy Sowers retired in the first five innings of his last two starts through Aug. 3. Sowers pitched five perfect innings in both of those starts, but he didn't get a win in either game.
