--OF Ben Francisco had his second career two-homer game, and his four RBIs match his career high. --LHP Aaron Laffey is expected to be recalled from Class AAA Buffalo when major league rosters are expanded Sept. 1. Manager Eric Wedge said the Indians are considering going with a six-man rotation in September.
--C Carlos Santana, acquired by the Indians from the Dodgers as part of the Casey Blake trade, has been voted the MVP of the California League, even though he hasn't played in the league since the July 7 trade. However, while playing for Inland Empire, Santana hit .323 with 14 home runs and 96 RBIs.
--INF Jamey Carroll's home run was his first of the season, the 10th of his career, and his first since Aug. 11, 2007, when as a member of the Colorado Rockies he hit one off the Cubs' Rich Hill.
BY THE NUMBERS: 1 -- Pitchers in major league history, besides LHP Cliff Lee this year, who have won 18 of their first 20 decisions for a team with a losing record. Ewell Blackwell did it for the 1947 Reds.
