Indianszone.com | Cleveland Indians News, indians Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - The Indians settled on LHP Scott Lewis, who won a spring training competition, to fill the lone opening in the rotation. LHP Cliff Lee, the reigning Cy Young Award winner, will be the No. 1 starter, although Lee had a horrible spring statistically and wasn't any better on opening day. DH Travis Hafner, who had offseason shoulder surgery, has been healthy but hasn't shown much power. The rest of the projected starting lineup has had a solid spring offensively.
PLAYER NEWS: --INF Tony Graffanino, whose contract was purchased from Class AAA Columbus, will replace INF Jamey Carroll on the roster. Carroll was placed on the disabled list with a broken bone in his left hand. Graffanino hit .271 in spring training with one homer and five RBIs. "Obviously I want to be in the big leagues," Graffanino said. "I'm sorry it came at Jamey's expense, but I'm happy nonetheless."
--OF David Dellucci, who is out with a strained left calf, is eligible to come off the disabled list Monday. Manager Eric Wedge said before that happens, Dellucci will have to go out on a rehab assignment to get some minor league at-bats. "He didn't have enough reps in spring training before he got hurt," Wedge said. "Once we think he can play a couple days in a row, we'll send him out. He's getting close." Dellucci is currently working out with the Indians' extended spring program in Goodyear, Ariz.
--RHP Anthony Reyes is expected to rejoin the Indians on Wednesday. Reyes made a final spring start at Class A Kinston (N.C.) on Tuesday in preparation for his first regular-season start Sunday against Toronto. He allowed two hits and one earned run in 4 2/3 innings for Kinston in an exhibition game against Mount Olive (N.C.) College.
MEDICAL WATCH:
