--LHP Aaron Laffey was beaten out by LHP Scott Lewis in the spring training competition for the one opening in the rotation. Laffey, however, has been recalled from Class AAA Columbus to replace Lewis, who went on the disabled list with a left elbow strain. In his one start at Columbus before his recall, Laffey gave up five runs and six hits in 3 1/3 innings. Laffey will start Wednesday against Kansas City.

--INF/OF Josh Barfield, the only Indians' position player who had yet to appear in a game this season, made his debut Tuesday night in the eighth inning as a pinch runner, getting thrown out trying to steal. Barfield was optioned to Class AAA Columbus following the game.

--DH Travis Hafner, who has yet to play more than three games in a row following offseason shoulder surgery, sat out Tuesday's game.

MEDICAL WATCH:

RHP Scott Lewis (strained left elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list April 11. He is unlikely to return before mid-May.

INF Jamey Carroll (broken left hand) went on the 15-day disabled list April 6. He will be out four to six weeks, but he won't need surgery.

OF David Dellucci (left calf strain) went on the 15-day disabled list March 30.

RHP Jake Westbrook (Tommy John surgery in June 2008) went on the 60-day disabled list March 26. He hopes to be pitching in the big leagues again by midseason.
