--RHP Greg Aquino's contract was purchased from Class AAA Columbus as the Indians continue to try to plug the numerous holes in their bullpen. Aquino, 31, had a 1.13 ERA and four saves in eight appearances at Columbus. --LHP Tony Sipp was optioned to Class AAA Columbus after struggling with his control in nine appearances since his recall on April 22. Sipp walked eight in 6 1/3 innings over his nine appearances.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Joe Smith (strained right rotator cuff) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 29.
DH Travis Hafner (weakness in right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 29. He will begin a rehab assignment with Class AAA Columbus on May 15.
RHP Scott Lewis (strained left elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list April 11. He was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 17.
RHP Jake Westbrook (Tommy John surgery in June 2008) went on the 60-day disabled list March 26. He hopes to be pitching in the big leagues again by midseason.
