Guthrie (10-8) allowed only four hits and struck out four against the team that made him a first-round draft pick in 2002. The right-hander appeared in only 16 games with one start for Cleveland and was claimed off waivers by Baltimore in January 2007.

Guthrie gave up one run for the fourth time in a row and has yielded two or fewer in six of his last seven starts. In 10 starts since June 24, Guthrie is 7-1 with a 2.79 ERA.

Nick Markakis and Melvin Mora had three hits apiece for Baltimore. Markakis' two-run single in a four-run ninth made him 8-for-12 with eight RBIs in the first three games of the four-game series.

Aubrey Huff had an RBI single in the ninth. He opened the Orioles' second by hitting his 25th homer, a drive off Anthony Reyes (1-1) that landed just over the wall and out of the reach of a leaping rightfielder Franklin Gutierrez and centerfielder Grady Sizemore.

Kevin Millar walked and eventually scored on a groundout by Jay Payton to make it 2-0 later in the inning.

Andy Marte opened the Indians' fifth with a double to left-center and scored on Sizemore's one-out double near the same spot on the warning track.

Reyes allowed two runs and six hits over six innings in his second AL start. The right-hander, acquired from St. Louis on July 26, was called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday to face Toronto and held the Blue Jays to one run and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings of a 5-2 win.

Guthrie picked up an Orioles rotation that had allowed four first-inning runs in three straight losses and came in with a 6.13 ERA overall since the All-Star break.

It was Guthrie's first start and best performance against the Indians. In two relief outings against them a year ago, he allowed six runs in 1 1-3 innings.

Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts went 0-for-5 to stop his hitting streak at 14 games. He was robbed of a hit by Cleveland second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera, who ranged behind the bag in the fifth to field a sharp grounder and threw to first to get the speedy Roberts.
