Indians activate INF Carroll, send down Barfield
CLEVELAND (AP) - The Cleveland Indians activated infielder Jamey Carroll from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and optioned infielder Josh Barfield to Triple-A Columbus.

Carroll broke his left hand when he was hit by a pitch in the Indians' last exhibition game on April 4. He was put on the DL before the season opener.

The veteran utilityman began a minor league rehabilitation assignment last week, playing four games at Columbus and going 3 for 11.

The 35-year-old Carroll batted .277 with 13 doubles, four triples, one home run and 36 RBIs in 113 games last season, primarily playing second base.

Barfield went 3 for 3 and scored three runs in five games for the Indians this season, and often was used as a pinch-runner. He began the season with the Indians, but was sent down on April 15 and recalled on May 2.
