Cleveland (33-37) has won five of its last seven, scoring seven runs or more four times during that span. The Indians lost 16 of their previous 22 games, crossing the plate three times or less in 10 of those contests.
Cleveland totaled 11 hits en route to a 7-3 win over San Diego on Sunday, taking two of three games in the weekend series. It was the fourth time in five games the Indians have reached double digits in hits.
"I've been telling people that nobody here is going to hit .220 all year," Cleveland starter C.C. Sabathia said. "These guys are going to bust out."
Now, the Indians will be facing a Rockies team that has allowed 17 runs its last two home games, losing both. Colorado (28-42) posted a 3.32 ERA in its previous 19 games at Coors Field, winning 12.
The Rockies will now hand the ball to Greg Reynolds (1-4, 6.69 ERA), who is coming off a terrible start at Coors Field. He allowed eight runs and 10 hits in 3 1-3 innings as the Rockies lost 10-7 to San Francisco on Thursday.
The 22-year-old right-hander will be making his first appearance against the Indians. His first interleague outing was against Minnesota on May 17, and it was his best start. Reynolds gave up three hits in six shutout innings, but did not receive a decision in a 3-2 Colorado win.
Veteran Indians slugger Grady Sizemore will be looking to take advantage of the struggling rookie.
Sizemore continued his recent surge Monday with his ninth homer in 16 games. The center fielder is batting .320 (16-for-50) in his last 12 contests, and .462 (6-for-13) with two doubles in three games versus the Rockies.
Cleveland may need another strong game at the plate with Paul Byrd (3-6, 4.89 ERA) taking the mound. The veteran right-hander is 1-3 with a 7.18 ERA in his last five starts, and has yielded an AL-worst 17 home runs.
Byrd gave up six runs and six hits in three innings as Cleveland lost 8-5 to Minnesota on Wednesday night.
After losing at home for the first time this season, Byrd will try to improve his record away from Progressive Field. He is 1-5 with a 6.75 ERA in seven road starts, and 0-2 with a 9.82 ERA in one start and four relief appearances lifetime at Colorado.
Byrd is 1-3 with a 5.03 ERA in four starts and five relief appearances overall against the Rockies. He is 8-11 with a 4.22 ERA in 25 starts and two relief appearances in interleague play.
Colorado will try to solve Byrd following one of its worst games at the plate, going 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position in a 7-1 loss to Atlanta on Monday. The Rockies have been held to two runs or less in four of their last eight games.
"We need to get better killer instinct about us, and put some teams away," Colorado first baseman Todd Helton said. "It'll be a challenge for us, but it's something we need to do."
The Rockies are 4-2 in interleague play, while the Indians have gone 2-4. Cleveland is 7-5 all-time against Colorado.
