The Twins lost to the Indians today, 4-2. Carlos Gomez started and led off today while Dernard Span sat on the bench. Given that Span eventually pinch hit and drove in both Twins runs, I assume he was capable of starting. It seems Gardenhire was going for a platoon advantage, as the Indians started Laffey the lefty, and Gomez is right-handed. The problem, however, is that Span doesnt have a problem with lefties, while Gomez has yet to show he can hit anyone. With Mauer still out of the lineup, the Twins need all the good OBA players they can get in the lineup. Span should play every day.
