Inside spring training camp: What's in a record? The Detroit Tigers had abysmal Grapefruit League records in two of the past three years they made the playoffs. They were 11-17 before winning the 1984 World Series and 9-20 before winning the American League East in 1987. Detroit was 18-15 before reaching the 2006 World Series. This spring, they are 3-8 in Grapefruit League games, with half their starters in the World Baseball Classic. "I'm not happy with where we are record-wise," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "But if we get our (butts) beat with our regular starters, I will be concerned." Meeting of the minds: Leyland had dinner with New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and good friend and St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa Monday night at The Capital Grille in Palm Beach Gardens. La Russa and Belichick are friends, and Leyland has wanted to meet him for some time. "I had a long conversation with Bill Belichick," Leyland said. "We talked about how you handle players, prepared for a game or a series and compared notes."
