Inside spring training camp:

Miner keeps working: Zach Miner got good results in 13 starts last year with the Detroit Tigers . He was 5-2 with a 4.30 ERA, earning a shot at this season's fifth rotation spot. Miner has a 9.69 ERA this spring, though. He gave up four runs Monday in the first inning against the St. Louis Cardinals before he blanked them the next two innings. Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Miner must continue to improve his breaking ball, but added, "He's throwing fine."

Zumaya still sore: Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said reliever Joel Zumaya, who has not pitched since March 2, is getting better but continues to experience muscle soreness in his right shoulder.

Six sent down: The Tigers reassigned six players to minor league teams. Pitcher Chris Lambert, infielder Michael Hollimon and outfielder Casper Wells were optioned to Triple-A Toledo. Pitcher Zach Simons was optioned to Double-A Erie. Shortstop Cale Iorg and catcher Alex Avila were assigned to minor league camp. Bonus coverage at mlive.com/Tigers
